“Cyclovia” is a Spanish word for temporary closure of streets to cars and open to walkers, cyclists, and skaters.
Last year’s inaugural event was a blast with people of all ages participating. The
happening was on a Sunday morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approximately 5 miles of streets were closed to vehicular traffic and activated with pedestrian/bicycle/skateboarding/roller-blading activity. Along the way there were tricycle rodeos for kids, aerobics for all ages, decorate your bike, YMCA Healthy Kids Day activities and weird and funny bicycles!
Jerry Shapin, ASLA Emeritus was co-chair of the planning committee. Other Southern Section AzASLA members were involved with planning the route, volunteering as intersection guards, first aid rovers, water station and clean-up crew. A number of members, including ASLA Ex Com, stepped up and donated $$’s toward a financial contribution. If you’d like to be involved this year, contact Daniela Diamente at info@elgrupocycling.org

Parking space can be reserved from ParkWise before Sept. 15 (520-791-5070). Downtown metered spaces for the whole day are $4.50; Main Gate is $9; and no meters on 4th Avenue.
